Draw, Write, Now. Adventures In U.S History

with MFW Adventures in U.S History

While we love My Father's World, we have never used the art that is recommended, and I have found a lot of success using Draw Write Now .  It provides an  independent time of art that ties into history, while I work with another child on other subjects, like Math or Language Arts.

In second grade, you will only need books 2,3, and 5, but I  bought the  Boxed Set because I knew I would be using it for 2 full years of art, science, history, and writing practice. In 3rd grade it goes perfectly with Exploring Countries and Cultures as you learn how to draw animals from around the world and write a fact about them. They were well worth the investment.

  1. Hi! I was wondering if you had created a list for Draw, Write, Now Paired with MFW ECC? Like you did for adventures. Your blog is awesome!! Thank you for all the details! :)

    1. Hi Alison! While I did use MFW with ECC, I didn't create that guide myself; I used a guide I found in the files section of MFW ECC Facebook group. Thanks for visiting!

  2. How does the copywork work in this? The book itself has it up and they just copy it into their workbook? I want my daughter to start cursive this year (2nd grade) but if it's all in manuscript that probably won't work. And I'm trying to find something that will combine a few subjects in one to alleviate busy work for my daughter. Do you think it would be easy and effective to teach cursive by just writing the few sentences up on the board in cursive and having her copy it that way?

I saw Draw and Write Through History does cursive but overall it looks more advanced especially in drawing skills.

    1. The copywork is in manuscript. We started cursive in 3rd grade, using cursive connections (highly recommend), but still used this as great manuscript practice, with wonderful science and social studies information. Draw Through History is definitely more advanced in drawing skills, I wouldn't exactly recommend for 2nd grade.

    1. My boys were different. My perfectionist/artist son had to do his last because he would take an hour to make it just right, and the do nothing else. My other son would get his done in around 15 minutes. Try it a few times and adjust based on your child.
